Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026 · UP is operated by UP Experiences, Inc., a Delaware corporation headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

We respect your privacy. This policy explains what data UP collects, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information when you use UP:

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Location Data

UP requests access to your device’s precise location to show you nearby venues, calculate distances, and suggest your current city. UP asks only after explaining why (during setup, or when you tap a control that needs it, such as Near Me), never before. Location is requested “While Using the App” only — UP does not track your location in the background. Location data is never sold to third parties. You can revoke location permission at any time in your device Settings; UP still works, you just pick your city manually.

Contacts

If you tap “Find friends from contacts,” UP asks for permission to read your device contacts. We read phone numbers only (not names, emails, addresses, or notes), normalise them on your device, and send them to our servers to check which of them belong to existing UP accounts. We use the result only to show you people you may know. The phone numbers sit in a temporary request on our servers only while the match runs: they are removed as soon as the match finishes, and the app also deletes the request once it has your result. If a request is interrupted (for example the app is closed mid-match), an automatic cleanup deletes it within about two hours. We never keep your contact list, we do not upload your contacts’ names, and we never message anyone in your contacts without you choosing to. This feature is entirely optional — you can decline, and you can revoke Contacts permission at any time in your device Settings.

LEEBOT & AI

LEEBOT’s answers are written by Claude, an AI model run by Anthropic, PBC, which processes your request on our behalf. Before your first LEEBOT message, UP shows you what is sent and asks for your agreement; if you choose “Not now”, nothing is sent and the rest of UP keeps working.

When you use LEEBOT, UP sends Anthropic: (1) your question and the recent messages in the chat; (2) your approximate area and how far places are from you (not your exact GPS coordinates); (3) your taste: the vibes you picked, when you usually go out, the names of places you have saved, and a short summary UP generated from your saves; and (4) friends: the names of friends who have plans at a place and, if you mention an accepted friend by name, a short summary of that friend’s taste. UP also sends the list of venues LEEBOT is searching. UP does not send your email address, phone number, or contacts.

A few other features send Anthropic only what you give them: importing places from text or a screenshot you provide, writing a venue description, and reading an artist schedule you submit.

UP keeps your LEEBOT conversations for 6 months (see Data Retention). Anthropic’s own privacy policy governs its handling of the data it receives.

Crash & Diagnostic Data

UP uses Sentry to collect crash reports and error diagnostics automatically. These reports include the error, a stack trace, your device model, OS version, app version, and an anonymous session identifier. We do not intentionally associate crash reports with your name, email address, or account ID, and they never include your password, your messages, or your contacts. We use this data solely to find and fix problems in the app.

Analytics

UP uses PostHog to understand how the app is actually used — which screens people open, which features they use, and where they get stuck — so we can improve it. These events include your app version, operating system version, device language and time zone, and, once you sign in, your UP account identifier so we can tell returning use from first-time use.

One deliberate limit: typed search terms are sent so we can see what people look for and cannot find, but they are shortened before they leave your device.

UP does not use an advertising identifier, does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and does not share this data with advertisers or data brokers.

Camera & Photos

We request access to your camera and photo library solely to let you upload a profile photo, artist profile photo, or business images. Photos are stored securely in Google Cloud Storage. All uploaded photos are screened by Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch before being published.

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in these limited circumstances:

Data Retention

Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. LEEBOT (AI assistant) conversations are retained for up to 6 months and then deleted automatically; you can also delete any chat yourself at any time. You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the app (Profile → Delete account), or request deletion by emailing us at the address below. We process deletion requests within 30 days.

Children’s Privacy

UP is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Venues we have flagged as 18 and over are hidden from accounts whose date of birth puts them under 18. UP does not verify anyone’s legal drinking age and does not sell or serve alcohol — venues do, and their rules apply. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email below.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including Firebase’s built-in security rules, HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, and access controls to protect your personal information. No system is 100% secure, and we encourage you to use a strong password and protect your account credentials.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notification or email. Continued use of UP after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
